Gosainkunda and Helambu Trek

Overview

A chance to explore the Langtang and Helambu valleys and the sacred lakes at Gosainkunda, this is a trek which includes encounters with a wide range of sights within a reasonable timeframe. We’ll begin by traversing the Langtang valley to Kyangjin Gompa, a trip that will take us through colorful Tamang and Sherpa villages among a picturesque backdrop painted by the Langtang range. At Kyanjin Gompa we’ll have a chance to explore the monastery and the glacial formations around the valley. Retracing our steps through the Langtang valley, we’ll break off toward Gosainkunda, where we’ll stop to admire the stunning aqua hue of its holy lakes, and continue to cross the Laurebina Pass at 4600m. From this tremendously scenic altitude, we’ll descend into Helambu valley, a landscape of lush alpine meadows, with spectacular views of the Everest,
Ganesh Himal, and Langtang ranges.

Itinerary

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, the bustling capital city of Nepal, you will be greeted at the airport and transferred to your accommodation. Take some time to rest and acclimate to the new environment.

Today, embark on a sightseeing tour of Kathmandu, exploring its rich cultural heritage. Visit UNESCO World Heritage Sites such as Pashupatinath Temple, Boudhanath Stupa, and Swayambhunath Stupa. In the afternoon, you will have a pre-trek briefing where you can meet your trekking guide and fellow trekkers. Use this time to make any necessary preparations for the trek ahead.

Leave Kathmandu in the morning and begin your adventure by driving to Syabrubesi, the starting point of your trek. Enjoy the scenic drive through picturesque landscapes, passing through rural villages and terraced fields. Arrive in Syabrubesi and settle into a teahouse for the night.

Today, your trek officially begins as you leave Syabrubesi and follow the Langtang Khola (river) upstream. The trail winds through dense forests, crossing suspension bridges and offering glimpses of waterfalls along the way. Reach Lama Hotel, a small settlement nestled amidst the greenery, and spend the night in a teahouse.

Continue your trek along the Langtang Khola, gradually ascending through rhododendron and bamboo forests. Pass through Ghoda Tabela (horse stable) and enjoy panoramic views of the Langtang range. As you reach Langtang Village, you'll be greeted by traditional stone houses and the warmth of the locals. Rest and rejuvenate in a teahouse overnight.

Embark on a shorter trek today, making your way to Kyanjin Gompa, a significant Buddhist monastery. The trail takes you through yak pastures and offers stunning views of glaciers and snow-capped peaks. Upon reaching Kyanjin Gompa, you can explore the monastery and enjoy the breathtaking scenery surrounding you.

Today, you have the opportunity to climb Tserko Ri, a beautiful viewpoint that offers panoramic views of the Langtang range. The ascent is challenging but rewarding, as you'll be treated to stunning vistas of the mountains and the surrounding valleys. After soaking in the scenery, descend back to Kyanjin Gompa for the night.

Bid farewell to Kyanjin Gompa and retrace your steps as you make your way back down to Lama Hotel. Descend through the forests, enjoying the familiar trail and the changing landscapes. Arrive in Lama Hotel and relax in a teahouse, reflecting on the experiences of your trek so far.

Resume your trek and continue descending through the Langtang valley. Pass by picturesque villages and enjoy the tranquility of the surrounding nature. Thulo Syabru, a beautiful village with traditional houses, will be your destination for the day. Interact with the locals and learn about their unique way of life.

Today's trek takes you to Shin Gompa, a serene monastery located amidst alpine meadows. As you ascend, the landscapes change, offering panoramic views of the Himalayas. Reach Shin Gompa and explore the monastery, immersing yourself in the peaceful atmosphere. Spend the night in a teahouse.

Embark on a challenging yet rewarding trek to Gosainkunda, a sacred lake in the Himalayas. The trail takes you through lush forests, passing other pristine lakes along the way. As you reach Gosainkunda, immerse yourself in its spiritual aura and take in the majestic beauty of the surrounding mountains. Spend the night near the lake.

Today's trek involves crossing the high mountain pass of Laurabina La. Ascend steeply, traversing rocky terrain and snow-covered slopes. Once you reach the pass, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views before descending to Gopte. Rest and recharge in a teahouse, surrounded by the rugged Himalayan landscapes.

Resume your descent, following the trail through dense forests and picturesque landscapes. Pass through charming villages and interact with the friendly locals. Melamchigaon, a traditional Sherpa village, will be your stop for the day. Experience the local culture and enjoy a peaceful evening in a teahouse.

Continue your journey through enchanting forests and terraced fields, surrounded by stunning mountain vistas. Trek to Tarke Gyang, a village rich in Tamang culture and traditions. Explore the village, visit the ancient Ghyangchok Monastery, and immerse yourself in the local way of life.

As you trek from Tarke Gyang to Sermethang, enjoy the serene countryside scenery and the warm hospitality of the local people. Pass through beautiful forests and encounter traditional villages along the way. Sermethang, with its terraced fields and charming houses, provides a perfect backdrop for a peaceful evening.

Embark on the final leg of your trek as you descend to Melamchi Pull Bazaar. The trail offers a mix of natural beauty and cultural encounters, passing through villages and farmlands. Once you reach Melamchi Pull Bazaar, you'll be driven back to Kathmandu. Enjoy a comfortable ride as you reminisce about your trekking adventure.

After a memorable trekking experience in the Langtang region, it's time to bid farewell to Kathmandu. Depending on your departure time, you may have a few hours to explore the city or do some last-minute souvenir shopping. Then, you will be transferred to the airport for your onward journey.
