Classic Everest Base Camp Trek

Overview

Beginning with an amazingly scenic flight from Kathmandu, we make a dramatic landing at Hillary Airport in Lukla. Our journey begins with a hike to Namche Bazaar, the region’s main commerce center, from where we enter the Sagarmatha National Park. We’ll make a gradual ascent through forested hillsides of rhododendron and juniper, presented with an astounding  array of Nepal’s diverse flora and fauna, as the towering peak of Mt. Thamserku and several others make their presence known upon the horizon. Breathtaking mountain scenery surrounds us we enter a world of boulder-strewn highlands, crossing Khumbu glacier to Everest Base Camp, where the massive Nuptse, Khumbuste, and Pomori stand to be admired. We’ll make the ascent to Kalapathar for an unforgettable panorama like none other on earth as the sun peeks over the horizon, illuminating an epic expanse of the world’s tallest peaks in dazzling tones. Visit the world’s highest monasteries at Dingboche and Tengboche, marvel at the Buddhist Gompas and colorful Sherpa villages, and savor the sense of accomplishment of this life-changing journey.

Itinerary

Upon arrival in Kathmandu, settle into your accommodation and take some time to rest and adjust to the new time zone. You can explore the local area or simply relax and prepare for the adventure ahead.

Embark on a guided tour of Kathmandu to explore its rich cultural and historical sites. Visit UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Kathmandu Durbar Square, Swayambhunath Stupa (Monkey Temple), Boudhanath Stupa, and Pashupatinath Temple. In the afternoon, meet with your trekking guide for a briefing and final preparations for the trek. Ensure you have all the necessary equipment and permits.

Take an early morning flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, a small mountain airstrip. Begin your trek by descending towards the Dudh Koshi River and follow the trail to Phakding. The walk takes about 3-4 hours, and along the way, you'll pass through scenic landscapes, charming villages, and cross suspension bridges.

Continue trekking along the banks of the Dudh Koshi River, crossing suspension bridges and ascending gradually through forests filled with rhododendron and pine trees. Reach Namche Bazaar, a bustling Sherpa town and the gateway to the Everest region. This day's trek takes approximately 5-6 hours.

Spend a day in Namche Bazaar to allow your body to acclimatize to the altitude. Take short hikes to higher elevations and visit the Everest View Hotel for panoramic views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and other surrounding peaks. Explore the local market, visit the Sherpa Museum, and immerse yourself in the vibrant culture of the region.

Continue your journey towards Tengboche, known for its famous monastery, Tengboche Monastery. Enjoy the breathtaking views of Everest, Ama Dablam, and other peaks as you ascend through rhododendron forests. The trek takes around 5-6 hours.

Descend through forests and cross the Imja Khola before gradually ascending to Dingboche. Marvel at the stunning views of Lhotse, Island Peak, and other Himalayan giants along the way. The trek takes approximately 5-6 hours.

Continue climbing higher and pass through a beautiful valley while enjoying panoramic views of mountains. Reach Duglha, a small village situated in a moraine valley. The trek duration is around 3-4 hours.

Follow the trail along the moraine of the Khumbu Glacier and ascend to Lobuche. Enjoy the stunning views of Nuptse, Pumori, and other peaks. The trek takes approximately 2-4 hours.

Embark on an exciting trek towards Gorak Shep, the last settlement before Everest Base Camp. After a brief rest, continue the journey to Everest Base Camp, the legendary campsite used by mountaineers during their summit attempts. Explore the base camp and soak in the incredible surroundings. Then, return to Gorak Shep for overnight stay. The trek takes around 7-8 hours.

Start early in the morning to hike up to Kala Pattar, a famous viewpoint known for its panoramic views of Mount Everest, Nuptse, and the Khumbu Glacier. After capturing the awe-inspiring vistas, descend to Pheriche. The trek duration is approximately 7-8 hours.

Descend through Pangboche and Tengboche, visiting the Tengboche Monastery again if desired. Reach Namche Bazaar, where you can unwind and reflect on your trekking experiences. The trek takes around 5-6 hours.

Continue descending through forests and Sherpa villages until you reach Lukla, where you'll spend your final night in the Everest region. The trek duration is approximately 6-8 hours.

Catch an early morning flight from Lukla back to Kathmandu. Upon arrival, you'll have the rest of the day free to relax, explore the city, and indulge in some souvenir shopping.
